What we move
MOVING IN SAN RAFAEL
San Rafael is Marin's largest city, and a single week of moves here can include a downtown apartment near Fourth Street, a hillside home in Gerstle Park, and a mid-century house in Terra Linda. The mix of building types means there is no standard San Rafael move. Downtown moves are about loading zones and elevators. Hillside moves are about narrow streets, steep driveways, and long carries up exterior stairs.
We plan each one around the address. During the estimate we look at where the truck can park, how far the crew will carry, and whether any furniture needs to come apart to clear tight stairways or older door frames. That work happens before the date is booked, so move day runs on a plan instead of a guess.
San Rafael is also a hub for Marin County offices, medical buildings, and small businesses, so many of our moves here are commercial. Office moves are scheduled around business hours, with furniture, files, and equipment labeled and placed by floor plan at the new space. For households, we offer full packing, partial packing, and unpacking, so you can decide how much of the work to hand over. Whatever the property, San Rafael moves get the same written plan, a trained crew, and a coordinator who already knows the building rules and the street before the truck arrives.
NEIGHBORHOODS
From flat downtown blocks to winding hillside streets, here is how we approach the areas we move most.
Apartments, condos, and mixed-use buildings close to shops and the transit center. We coordinate loading zones and building elevators ahead of time so the truck is not circling the block.
Older homes on tree-lined, sloping streets, many with exterior stairs and tight interior staircases. We plan padding, door protection, and disassembly for pieces that will not clear older frames.
Mid-century homes, including many Eichlers, on flatter streets in the north of the city. Glass walls and open floor plans call for careful protection of floors and wide panes during the carry.
Hillside and waterfront homes in eastern San Rafael, some with long driveways and view decks. We check driveway access and plan carries that avoid landscaping and steps.
Established single-family homes on quiet, winding streets west of downtown. Street width and parked cars decide where the truck can stop, so we confirm it before move day.
ACCESS NOTES
Many San Rafael homes sit above the street. We measure the carry, plan for stairs, and bring the protection and equipment needed to move heavy pieces safely on a slope.
Apartment and condo buildings downtown often require elevator reservations, move windows, and a Certificate of Insurance. Your coordinator gathers those details and adds them to the written plan.
San Rafael sits where Highway 101 meets the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge. We schedule start times around peak traffic, which matters most for moves heading to the East Bay or San Francisco.
POPULAR MOVES
San Rafael moves often stay close, heading to Novato, Larkspur, or Mill Valley. Others cross the Golden Gate into San Francisco or the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge into the East Bay. Moving farther? See how we plan long-distance moves.
